How to Connect and Set Up the AMS 2 Pro on a Bambu Lab X1C (X1 Carbon)
To connect an AMS 2 Pro to an X1C (X1 Carbon), you need a filament buffer (or AMS Hub for multiple units), the new 6-pin bus cable (2.5 mm step height), a 4-pin bus cable, PTFE tubes, and the 24V 4A Switching Adapter for active drying. Update your X1C firmware first, connect the PTFE path and bus cables, then open Filament -> AMS Humidity Icon on the X1C touchscreen to control drying. Last checked October 25, 2026.
While the physical rear mounting on an X1C (X1 Carbon) is similar to the P1S, the X1C uses a different touchscreen interface for starting the dryer and checking humidity. This guide summarizes Bambu Lab’s official X1 series connection and drying documentation as of October 25, 2026.
What you need before connecting to an X1C
| Component | Required for Feeding Only? | Required for Active Drying? | Notes from Bambu’s Wiki |
|---|---|---|---|
| Filament Buffer (or AMS Hub) | Yes | Yes | Use a Filament Buffer for 1 unit (Upgrade Kit 1) or an AMS Hub for 2 to 4 units (Upgrade Kit 2). |
| 4-pin Bus Cable | Yes | Yes | L-shaped plug connects to the back of the X1C; straight end goes to the bottom of the buffer. |
| New 6-pin Bus Cable (2.5 mm step) | Yes | Yes | Do not reuse the old 1st-gen AMS 6-pin cable (1.1 mm step), as it causes communication drops. |
| 550 mm & 370 mm PTFE Tubes | Yes | Yes | 550 mm goes from AMS 2 Pro to buffer left side; 370 mm goes from buffer right side to printer coupler. |
| 24V 4A Switching Adapter | No | Yes (1 per drying unit) | The X1C motherboard cannot supply enough power to run the AMS 2 Pro heaters without this adapter. |
Step-by-step physical connection on the X1C
- Update X1C firmware first. Active drying control on X1 series printers requires the firmware update released from late April 2025 onward.
- Mount the Filament Buffer. Place the AMS 2 Pro on top of the X1C glass cover and secure the filament buffer to the rear of the X1C using two M3 × 21.5 screws.
- Connect the PTFE tubes. Push the 550 mm PTFE tube into the AMS 2 Pro outlet and the left port of the filament buffer. Push the 370 mm PTFE tube into the right port of the buffer and into the X1C PTFE coupler (routed under the spool holder).
- Plug in the 4-pin and 6-pin cables. Insert the L-shaped 4-pin cable into the X1C rear port and the bottom of the buffer. Connect the new 6-pin cable from either rear port on the AMS 2 Pro to the left side of the buffer.
- Connect the 24V 4A Switching Adapter. Plug it into the AMS 2 Pro power port and a wall outlet if you plan to dry filament.
Navigating the X1C touchscreen for drying
Unlike the P1S screen, the X1C has a dedicated graphical Drying and Humidity menu:
- Tap Filament on the left navigation bar of the X1C touchscreen, then tap the AMS humidity icon (or tap the Settings gear icon in the bottom right and select AMS Drying).
- Check the power icon in the lower right corner: it stays grey on bus power alone and turns green when the 24V 4A Switching Adapter is detected.
- Make sure the filament is not loaded into the feeder (leave the spool resting in the slot with the top lid closed).
- Select the slot, confirm the temperature (up to 65 °C) and duration, and tap Start.
