Bambu Lab AMS 2 Pro Total Upgrade Cost by Printer: Hidden Accessories to Count

Published August 30, 2026

Researched guide

The sticker price of the standalone AMS 2 Pro is only your total cost if you connect a single unit to an H2D or H2S (which have a built-in buffer and supply drying power for one unit). On X1 and P1 printers, you must add the price of Upgrade Kit 1 (or a Filament Buffer + 24V 4A Switching Adapter), and on a standalone P2S you must add the P2S Filament Buffer. Last checked October 25, 2026.

How this guide was made

Because Bambu Lab’s regional store prices fluctuate with currency and bundle sales, looking only at the standalone AMS 2 Pro price tag often leads to surprise checkout costs. Use this printer-by-printer checklist—sourced from Bambu Lab’s official FAQ and compatibility tables as of October 25, 2026—to calculate what you actually need to buy.

Total hardware shopping list by printer model

Your PrinterNumber of AMS 2 Pro UnitsExtra Accessories You Must Buy (On Top of AMS 2 Pro Price)
H2D or H2S1 unitNone ($0 extra). Buffer is built in, and printer powers 1 unit for drying (buy 1 Switching Adapter only if you want unreduced drying power while printing).
H2D or H2S2 units (both drying)1 × 24V 4A Switching Adapter (for the 2nd unit). No adapter needed on H2D if each unit routes to its own nozzle.
H2D or H2S3 to 4 units (all drying)1–2 × Bambu 4-in-1 PTFE Adapters + 2 to 3 × 24V 4A Switching Adapters (printer only powers 1 unit).
P1S / P1P / X1C1 unit (feeding only, no drying)1 × Filament Buffer + 4-pin bus cable + PTFE tubes (no Switching Adapter needed if you never use the dryer).
P1S / P1P / X1C1 unit (with 65 °C drying)AMS 2 Pro Upgrade Kit 1 (includes Filament Buffer, 4-pin cable, PTFE tubes, and 1 × 24V 4A Switching Adapter).
P1S / P1P / X1C2 to 4 units (all drying)AMS 2 Pro Upgrade Kit 2 (AMS Hub) + extra 24V 4A Switching Adapters (1 adapter required per drying unit).
Standalone P2S1 to 2 units1 × P2S Filament Buffer (neither standalone P2S nor standalone AMS 2 Pro includes it) + 1 × Switching Adapter if drying a 2nd unit or printing while drying.
Standalone P2S3 to 4 units1 × P2S Filament Buffer + 4-in-1 PTFE Adapter(s) + Switching Adapters for units 2, 3, and 4.

Three ways buyers avoid overspending

  1. Count how many units you actually dry at the same time: On X1 and P1 printers, Bambu Lab’s wiki notes that you only need a 24V 4A Switching Adapter for each unit that actively dries. If you own 2 AMS 2 Pro units but only dry filament in one of them, you only need one power adapter.
  2. Don’t buy an adapter for an AMS HT: If you add an AMS HT for high-temp engineering spools, it includes its own AC power cord and never needs the 24V 4A Switching Adapter.
  3. Use the 4-in-1 PTFE Adapter if you already own a Filament Buffer: If your X1C or P1S already has a working 1st-gen Filament Buffer, Bambu’s connection guide allows placing a low-cost 4-in-1 PTFE Adapter between multiple AMS units and your existing buffer instead of buying a full AMS Hub.
