Bambu Lab AMS 2 Pro vs AMS HT: Max Temperature, Spools, Power and TPU Rules
The AMS 2 Pro holds 4 spools and dries standard filaments up to 65 °C (using printer bus power on H2D/H2S or a 24V 4A adapter on X1/P1). The AMS HT is a high-temperature unit designed for engineering filaments like ABS, ASA, PA, and PC that require more than 65 °C; it uses its own built-in mains power cord and holds 1 spool per unit. Last checked October 25, 2026.
When Bambu Lab launched the AMS 2 Pro, it also introduced the AMS HT (High Temperature). If you already compared the AMS 2 Pro vs the original AMS, this guide covers the second major buying question: when you need the AMS 2 Pro vs. when you need the AMS HT, based on Bambu Lab’s wiki as of October 25, 2026.
AMS 2 Pro vs. AMS HT side-by-side
| Feature | AMS 2 Pro | AMS HT | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spool Capacity per Unit | 4 spools | 1 spool (calculated from H2D 4×4 + 8×1 = 24 slots and P2S 4×4 + 4×1 = 20 slots) | Multi-Model Guide |
| Max Drying Temperature | 65 °C | Above 65 °C (for high-temp engineering materials) | EU Store, Wiki FAQ |
| Target Filaments | PLA, PETG, PVA, Support filaments (and partial drying for higher-temp spools) | ABS, ASA, PA (Nylon), PC, and high-temp engineering composites | X1/P1 Drying Wiki, EU Store |
| Drying Power Supply | Printer bus power (1 unit on H2/P2S) or external 24V 4A Switching Adapter | Built-in AC power cord (no external 24V 4A adapter purchase needed) | Wiki FAQ |
| 6-Pin Bus Cable | Uses new 6-pin cable (2.5 mm step height) | Uses new 6-pin cable (2.5 mm step height) | Multi-Model Guide |
| TPU Usage Rule | Not applicable to low-softening-temp filaments in certain drying modes; see TPU rules | Cannot use automatic feed/return with TPU, but can act as a drying box via the bypass port (cannot dry while feeding via bypass) | Wiki FAQ |
| Max Units on H2D / H2S | Up to 4 units (16 slots) | Up to 8 units (8 slots) | Multi-Model Guide |
| Max Units on P2S | Up to 4 units (16 slots) | Up to 4 units (4 slots) | Multi-Model Guide |
Why the AMS HT does not need the 24V 4A Switching Adapter
One major hardware difference in Bambu Lab’s FAQ is power delivery:
- The AMS 2 Pro draws low-voltage DC power (either from the printer or from the optional 24V 4A Switching Adapter).
- The AMS HT has a higher-wattage heater for temperatures above 65 °C, so it uses its own built-in AC power cord on H2D, P2S, X1, and P1 series printers. You never need to buy a 24V 4A Switching Adapter for an AMS HT.
Can you chain AMS 2 Pro and AMS HT together?
Yes. On the H2D and H2S, you can daisy-chain up to 4 AMS 2 Pro units and 8 AMS HT units at the same time (24 filaments total). On the P2S, you can connect up to 4 AMS 2 Pro units and 4 AMS HT units (20 slots total).
